Wedding 2025: a ritual that keeps pace with society and new trends

Marriage remains a symbolic pillar of French society, despite the evolution of couple models and the rise of other forms of union such as the PACS. Far from being a simple festive event, it reveals the aspirations, values and contradictions of our time. The Wedding.net 2025 Bridal Report, based on a survey of 5,500 couples married in 2024, as well as the*Ymanci 2024* study on “The French and marriage”, provide a little more information on trends.

Grand Morin Estate

1. Marriage: A Timeless Ritual

According to the Weddings.Net 2025 Report, 92% of couples continue to see marriage as a highly symbolic moment, far from a simple administrative formality. This strong emotional charge is explained by the social function of marriage: it structures collective life, seals a commitment and marks a fundamental transition.

The Ymanci study confirms this profound dimension: in 2024, 55% of French People Say They Want to Get Married One Day, even if no project has yet been launched. For many, marriage remains a “life goal”, even in a context where alternatives are multiplying.

Sociologically, marriage still functions as a rite of passage, in the anthropologist's sense. Arnold Van Gennep : separation (the end of single life), margin (the ritual and its preparations), aggregation (the public recognition of a new social status).
This logic explains why marriage remains so symbolically charged: it brings about a change in social identity, visible and recognized by those around you.

2. Couples Marry Later But With More Conviction

The 2025 Report Shows a clear trend: Couples Get Married Later, around 35 years of age on average. This evolution reflects several sociological changes:

  • Longer studies
  • More Gradual Professional Integration
  • The Prior Search for Financial and Emotional Stability
  • The Normalization of Married Life Before Marriage

But this discrepancy does not mean “disaffection.” On the contrary: later on, marriage is also more thoughtful and more intentional.
As Mariages.net notes, couples want to organize “a moment that is just like them” and not a conventional wedding, a repeat of their parents'.

This maturity also explains why the event is more stylized, scripted and emotionally invested.

3. The massive influence of social networks

The 2025 Report Highlights an evolution that has become central: social networks are now shaping the imaginary of marriage.

  • Pinterest is used by about 8 couples out of 10 To Look for Inspiration
  • Instagram is becoming a visual landmark as well as a vector of trends
  • Couples prefer photogenic locations, spectacular arches, natural settings, and bright images.

According to Ymanci 2024, 47% of couples say they want an “Instagrammable wedding” : a term that reveals the contemporary relationship with the image.

On the sociological level, this dynamic reflects two phenomena:

  1. Marriage as a Visual Story : document, share, disseminate.
  1. The standardization of tastes via algorithms, which favor dominant styles (bohemian chic, country, minimalist, Provençal).

But paradoxically, this influence also pushes couples to seek a form ofHyper-personalization To stand out and for their guests to remember.

4. Personalization: a quest for identity

The Weddings.Net 2025 Report Observe that 71% of couples choose a theme. This figure the desire illustrates to build a coherent, almost narrative universe.
The most popular themes:

  • nature & authenticity
  • Stylish minimalism
  • Mediterranean Inspirations
  • Terracotta Aesthetics and Neutral Tones
  • immersive floral decorations

This personalization reflects a broader sociological quest: The Need for Individuality In a standardized society.
Marriage becomes a space for identity projection, a form of artistic expression for the couple.

5. The reception location: a choice that must make sense

According to Mariages.net 2025, the French very much prefer places that offer:

  • Nature and Wide Open Spaces
  • Historic charm
  • Possibility to organize everything on site (ceremony + dinner + evening + accommodation)
  • total privatization

These criteria reflect a search for Emotional coherence : the place should tell something.
Sociologically, domains and castles are attractive because they embody at the same time:

  • tradition
  • Beauty
  • Patrimonial Continuity
  • Immersion in nature
  • Suspended Temporality

Modern marriage wants to take place outside the everyday: a space-time “apart”, almost sacred.

By Pascal Vo

This is precisely the DNA of the Domaines & Events group's domains. Each place allows you to experience a ceremony, a dinner, an evening and to enjoy the accommodations in the same setting, designed to promote the fluidity of D-Day and the pleasure of being together: the Domaine d'Aveny in Normandy, the Domaine des Barrenques and the Domaine de la Vivande in Provence, the Domaine de la Vivande in Provence, the Domaine de la Vivande in Provence, the Domaine du Grand Morin in Seine-et-Marne, the Domaine de la Barrenques and the Domaine de la Vivande in Provence, the Domaine de la Vivande in Provence, the Domaine de la Vivande in Provence, the Domaine du Vivande in Provence, the Domaine du Grand Morin in Seine-et-Marne, the Domaine de la Roche Couridor in Provence Ile de France, the Domaine de Vaujoly and the Domaine de la Thibaudière in Center-Val de Loire

Beyond practical criteria, domains seduce by the emotion they arouse. They tell a story, and become the scene of a new page to be written. Tradition, beauty, link to heritage, immersion in nature: our castles and estates offer this unique sensation of entering a suspended temporality.

A wedding should be a special moment. Our domains are designed for this: to disconnect from everyday life, to celebrate love, and to fully live an experience that will remain engraved forever.

6. The Great Rise of Secular Ceremonies

The 2025 Report confirms a fundamental trend: The secular ceremony stands out as the emotional heart of the marriage.

  • 58% of couples organize one
  • This ritual makes it possible to involve loved ones: speeches, promises, symbols
  • Couples Free Themselves from the Religious Framework While Maintaining a Sacred Dimension

This phenomenon illustrates the deinstitutionalization of religion accompanied by a strong emotional re-ritualization.
In other words: couples want a ritual that “makes sense”, even if it is not religious.

By Pascal Vo

7. Long and Intensive Preparations

According to Mariages.net 2025, couples start preparing on average. 14 months before D-Day.

The main concerns:

  • Find an available location
  • Manage the budget
  • Coordinate service providers
  • Avoid Family Conflicts
  • Preserve Emotion While Managing Logistics

According to the Ymanci study, 85% of couples report experiencing stress during the organization.

This complexity to the rise in power ofProfessional Marriage Industry :

  • Wedding Planners
  • florists designers
  • Specialized Photographers
  • Video Makers and Content Creators
  • scenographers
  • Turnkey Locations

Marriage becomes a “production” in a sociological sense: an event executed by a network of professionals, but orchestrated around a personal vision of the couple.

8. The Budget: Between Social Expectations and Emotional Investment

Without going into legal and banking aspects, Ymanci data reveals that The average budget varies between €12,000 and €20,000, with significant variations depending on the number of guests and the location.

Even more significant:
44% of couples exceed the initial budget For:

  • Improve the guest experience
  • Get better quality photos and videos
  • Add a more immersive scenography
  • Offer a more generous meal

It is not a materialistic choice, but a Emotional Investment : couples want to experience an exceptional moment, marked by beauty, conviviality and symbolism.

Family Help, Very Present, Confirms That Marriage Remains an Event intergenerational, which mobilizes several social circles.

The Bridal relationship 2025 and the Ymanci study show that marriage is far from being a declining ritual. It is becoming more mature and more personalized. The 2025 Wedding Isn't Just a Party: It's a identity ritual.

It testifies to a society where individuality is combined with the desire for community, where authenticity is mixed with staging, and where love is celebrated in a renewed, sensitive and deeply human form.

FAQ — Everything you need to know to organize your wedding in 2025

1. How to choose the right reception venue for a wedding in 2025?
The choice of location depends above all on the atmosphere you want to create: nature, elegance, heritage, modernity... Before booking, check the accommodation capacity, the spaces available for the ceremony, the presence of a plan B in case of rain, privatization options and time constraints. In 2025, couples are especially looking for immersive, accessible and completely privatized places to fully enjoy the weekend with their loved ones.

2. How to plan a realistic budget for your wedding?
To establish a coherent budget, it is first necessary to determine the number of guests, the type of reception (cocktail, sit-down meal, brunch...), the desired level of scenography and the essential service providers. Consider integrating expenses that are often forgotten: additional furniture, decorative lighting, guest transport, accommodation and entertainment. In 2025, couples are prioritizing experience and quality, which means allocating a significant portion of the budget to the venue, the caterer and the photographer.

3. How do you ensure that your wedding stays memorable and smooth for guests?
A successful marriage is based on the experience of loved ones. To create a fluid day, it is recommended to limit travel, to opt for a place that centralizes all the steps (preparations, ceremony, cocktail, dinner, evening, night), and to plan breathing times: a warm welcome, accessible outdoor spaces, accessible outdoor spaces, accessible outdoor spaces, soft entertainment and good logistical support. The guests especially remember the atmosphere, the beauty of the place and the attention paid to their comfort.
